Lisa Powell
Specific treatment approaches such as; Group Therapy, EMDR, BSFT and EFT have supported me in assisting patients who are confronting common obstacles and challenges. These treatments have also allowed me to help those with acute conditions such as; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, and grief. Continuing my pursuit of additional training and ongoing professional consultation has equipped me with a breadth of tools and knowledge to greater support my patients. Further to my training and continued education, I believe that building a relationship on trust with my is perhaps patients the most effective tool I have to offer.
Entering therapy, whether that be with me or another therapist, is an invitation to the possibility of a relationship. It is commonly thought that if we can make a relationship work [between the therapist and client], the client stands a good chance of having successful relationships in life.
Education
I completed my undergraduate and Master’s degree in Canada at the University of Waterloo and University of Toronto’s OISE. I expanded my knowledge and pursued my PhD at Capella University with a focus on helping those with addiction. I had an opportunity to receive an additional year-long intensive training in Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) offered at the University of Miami’s Family Studies Program.
